Sun Rising on the Horizon

A few years ago, a friend and I spent a night at the Big Bay Point Lighthouse on Lake Superior in Michigan, USA. It is said that the lighthouse/bed and breakfast is haunted by the old lighthouse keeper whose son had grown very ill. It is said that when he did not take his son into town to a physician, his son died. The old lighthouse keeper was so bereaved that one night he ventured out into the woods on the property where he hung himself from a tree. It is said that the tree remains.

My friend and I explored the grounds in daylight. I was unable to sleep and at 4:30 a.m. got out of bed and quietly let myself out of the light house. It was still dark outside. Yes, it was more than a little creepy but I was determined to see what I might experience.

I walked over to the edge of the cliff over Lake Superior, and watched the sun begin to rise on the horizon. It was a magnificent sight. The only problem was that I found myself completely unable to shake the feeling that someone was watching me, and was not at all far away from me. I persevered, and shot a few photos with my digital camera. Notice the orb on the grass. It had been approximately twenty feet behind me while I’d been shooting the sunrise. A bit creepy? Oh yeah. But it was worth it!
